The Florida Urban Forestry Council regularly hosts regional workshops, webinars, and events to provide educational opportunities. Some of these opportunities are in-person events and others online (virtual). Various topics are covered within urban forestry. Boardwalk Design Course

Course Description: 

This comprehensive course covers the fundamentals of boardwalk design, focusing on sustainable practices and environmental considerations. The presentation addresses key aspects including material selection, environmental impact mitigation, pedestrian traffic management, and structural design considerations. Through real-world case studies and technical examples, participants will learn about effective boardwalk design strategies that balance durability, safety, and environmental protection.

Educational Goals: 

  1. Understand fundamental principles of environmentally conscious boardwalk design and construction
  2. Learn key considerations for pedestrian safety and traffic management in boardwalk projects
  3. Gain knowledge of various boardwalk materials and their applications in different environments

Course Objectives:

  1. Participants learn techniques to minimize boardwalk construction impacts on wetlands and the surrounding environment, emphasizing sustainability
  2. Participants learn how to determine the optimal boardwalk width to accommodate varying levels of pedestrian traffic efficiently
  3. Participants get key insights into the elements of designing safe boardwalk structures, considering load capacity, materials, and environmental factors PermaTrak

Speakers:

John Pyle joined the PermaTrak team in 2019 as Regional Sales Manager and was promoted to Vice President, Sales and Marketing in July 2020. John graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and is a registered engineer in the state of South Carolina. He focuses on helping clients find the best solution for their unique project needs by tailoring solutions to specific site challenges.

Andrew Craig joined the PermaTrak team in 2021 as Director of Engineering. A Charlotte local, Andrew has over 15 years of structural engineering experience. Before joining PermaTrak, Andrew worked at KCI where he focused on providing bridge engineering services for design-build projects.

Carrie Parada joined the PermaTrak team in 2015 as a Technical Sales Consultant. She now serves as a Project Consultant, responsible for overseeing and coordinating various aspects of projects from inception to completion. Prior to working with PermaTrak, Carrie served as an Inside Bridge Consultant, as well as a Structural Engineer with CONTECH and CON/SPAN. She has a degree in Civil Engineering from Case Western Reserve in Ohio, and is a registered professional engineer.
