Foundational Fridays April 2026 Webinar Description

Unlock the power of partnerships in urban forestry with this dynamic session on engaging private organizations, community groups, and individuals in urban greening efforts. Learn why public-sector efforts alone aren’t enough—and how to build a strategic, scalable engagement ecosystem that drives real impact. From understanding stakeholder motivations to designing pathways that move participants from awareness to leadership, this webinar offers practical tools to strengthen partnerships, increase participation, and sustain long-term success. Walk away with actionable strategies you can immediately apply in your own community. We will review the key terms, discuss terms to help us better understand what is and is not a compliant Tree Risk Assessment in field work and fora report, municipal codes written to be compliant (legal concurrency) with FS163.045, example reports to highlight professional practice that meets ethics, and that do not, and have time for Q&A about these topics.

Description

We are continuing to test our research results and our recommendations with our FUFC peer group by presenting more terms and definitions from our Model Municipal Tree Ordinance for Florida project. This session focuses on two terms that are key to the health and structure of our urban forests in Florida communities. Protecting trees from abuse and requiring industry standards for maintenance. This is as basic as it gets for why to have tree protection codes. Related to what is or is not Tree Abuse is the determination of whether a tree is Effectively Destroyed in codes that use that term. Let’s discuss the use of these terms and some of the conflicting decisions being made about prescribing restoration versus deciding that removal and replacement is the single action to prescribe.
